Saints and Revolutionaries

In the "new" Universal Catechism, when we look in the subject index under Saints, we are told to "see Holiness". That such a reference is profound should come as no real surprise, but that it should come as no real surprise is itself quite profound.

The simple fact the Church teaches us that we each have a personal call to live a life of holiness is no simple fact to many in the world - it is revolutionary. It is as strange as the lives of the saints they know so little about.

In Honor of All Saints

I'm a day late in posting, but here it is in honor of yesterday's Holy Day.

Holiness

This is my current parish. For what it's worth - and Abouna will likely give me a spiritual slap up-side the head for saying so - if you would like to meet a "canonizable" modern-day saint, come celebrate the Holy Mysteries with Abouna Decker. Yes, yes: I realize I am in no position to judge whether Abouna is in fact a saint. I can affirm, however, that I believe he is truly set-apart; he is deeply prayerful; and, he is a blessing to me and my family. It may not be as obvious, but somehow Abouna reminds me of Padre Pio.
