Catholics, Monarchists and Nazis

It is no secret Catholics have an appreciation for monarchy (since they have an appreciation for liberty). What has that appreciation meant in relatively modern - that is, anti-royalist - times? Well, in Nazi Germany it meant this:

Percentage of Nazi votes, July 31, 1932:

Percentage of Catholics in Germany, 1934 census results:

Looks like the anti-Monarchist Nazis didn't fair too well with the monarchist-friendly Catholics.

Hiya! Great blog, but where did you get those pictures from? I'm not doubting the statistics, I'd just like to obtain a copy of the source.

Great question: I wish I could tell you. Unfortunately, since I culled them from the net some time ago, I cannot. I will see if I can find the source then post it at a later date.

Thanks for reading!

Those maps are included in Erik von Kuehnelt-Leddihn's book Liberty or Equality: The Challenge of Our Times. It can be purchased from the Ludwig von Mises Institute. If one does not wish to own it - though I think it is an excellent book - then one should be able to track down a copy through interlibrary loan.

(I will add, as a caveat, that the copy I own was published in 1993 by Christendom Press. But I see no reason the maps would not be in the edition published by the Ludwig von Mises Institute.)
