Holy Week

This past week was, of course, Holy Week. There is not much I can say anyone reading this wouldn't already know; but, perhaps I can add something to your heart by displaying Holy Week in icons and images:

Pascha Eve
Solemn Holy Mysteries
(Ceremony of Peace and Procession)

Great and Holy Friday
(Commemoration of the Burial of Our Lord - Burial Procession)

Holy Thursday
Holy Mysteries
(Washing of the Apostles Feet, Procession with the Blessed Sacrament)

Holy Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday
Lighting of the Lamps, Holy Mysteries
(Benediction of the Holy Cross)

Hosanna Sunday
Holy Mysteries
(Procession with Palms)

Saturday of the Holy and Righteous Friend of Christ, Lazarus
Holy Mysteries

The services of Holy Week transform us into eyewitnesses and direct participants in the awesome events of the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. In numerous readings taken from both Old and New Testaments, in hymns, processions, and liturgical commemoration, we see the fulfillment of the Messianic prophecies, and the mighty acts by which God Himself, in the person of Jesus Christ, grants us forgiveness for our sins, and rescues us from the sufferings of eternal death.

Praised be His Holy Name!
